MORE ABOUT ME
Roger Wade Basset was born in Boston, MA in 1955. He received his formal art training in London, England, graduating from the Royal Academy of Arts in 1978. That same year he began studying the Shroud of Turin after reading a book review about this amazing phenomenon. Using the latest in image-enhancement technology, artist R.W. Basset has brought forth a clearer vision of the image on the Shroud. Having studied the image for nearly half a century, he believes the Shroud of Turin is authentic, that the image on the Shroud is that of Jesus Christ, and that the Shroud image was the basis for the familiar likeness of Christ that has come down to us through the centuries in art. Now, for the first time, the image on the Shroud has been clarified and placed in, what Basset claims, is it’s correct historical context. Applying his skills in drawing and oil painting, Basset retells the Story of Jesus in a way that only the Turin Shroud could tell. This series of paintings, the “Portrait from the Turin Shroud” is a continuation of an artistic quest that began in 300 A.D. The hope the artist holds is that whoever takes the time to view the paintings, and in particular the “Portrait”, will experience the thrill and mystery that he experienced creating the works.
