Portrait from the Turin Shroud- and The Story of Jesus in paintings

This book presents both an old and new direction in the artistic study of an amazing phenomenon; the image on the Turin Shroud. Reproduced in gorgeous full color, each painting is shown in its entirety. On adjacent pages, excerpts from the New Testament accompany the beautiful paintings the artist has created. Beginning with the Baptism of Christ and culminating with the Resurrection, the 15 paintings take the viewer to a place where they become a witness to the powerfully moving story of Jesus Christ.
Roger Wade Basset was born in Boston, MA in 1955. He received his formal art training in London, England, graduating from the Royal Academy of Arts in 1978. That same year he began studying the Shroud of Turin after reading a book review about this amazing phenomenon. Using the latest in image-enhancement technology, artist R.W. Basset has brought forth a clearer vision of the image on the Shroud. Having studied the image for nearly half a century, he believes the Shroud of Turin is authentic, that the image on the Shroud is that of Jesus Christ, and that the Shroud image was the basis for the familiar likeness of Christ that has come down to us through the centuries in art. Now, for the first time, the image on the Shroud has been clarified and placed in, what Basset claims, is it’s correct historical context....

About The Book

Portrait from The Turin Shroud

This book presents both an old and new direction in the artistic study of an amazing phenomenon; the image on the Turin Shroud. Reproduced in gorgeous full color, each painting is shown in it’s entirety. In the adjacent pages, excerpts from the New Testament accompany the beautiful paintings the artist has created. Beginning with the Baptism of Christ, and culminating with the Resurrection, the 15 paintings take the viewer to a place where they are a witness to the powerfully moving story of Jesus Christ. And now, for the first time, the clarified image offers a clear view of Jesus like only the Shroud of Turin could. A brief overview of the Shrouds history explains the development of the portrayal of Christ in art and how the newly clarified image offers an even closer, and perhaps more realistic experience of His-story. Each painting visually tells of an important event from the New Testament in rich tones and color. Close up shots of the paintings act as a story board, leading the viewer through the occurances in the ministry of Jesus Christ, to the final triumph: His life over death. Portrait from the Turin Shroud in many respects demands our attention. Basset has clarified a portion of the Shroud image: the area of the face and if he has indeed figured out what the creator of the image intended, it is exciting. If the Shroud is indeed authentic, as Basset believes, then that creator is God Himself.
